2015: Darjeeling Chintan School
Gandhi Smarak School, presently known as Darjeeling Chintan School, is located in a village called Takling 21 kilometers away from sub-divisional town Kalimpong in Darjeeling district in West Bengal. There are currently 72 students, 38 boys and 34 girls, who are mostly Gorkha (tribal). The condition of the school building is very poor with only one hut with thatched roof and no toilet. We are now constructing a permanent school building. Some of the teachers are college graduates. The salary of the teachers varies from Rs. 2000 to 3000. Children from the adjoining villages of Baramangwa, Chotamangwa and Soreng attend this school in grades Nursery through Class VIII. Although there are two other primary schools in the locality, majority of the people depend on this school for education as well as extracurricular activities like sports and karate. As the condition of the school building was very poor with, Caring Hands constructed a permanent school building for the school.
